PROFILE

Hugh is a Director and Principal Consulting Geophysicist with Flagstaff GeoConsultants Pty Ltd and has a lengthy and successful association with the exploration industry over a period of 30 years. He has worked with government organisations both overseas and in Australia applying geophysical expertise to mineral exploration.

His fundamental industry experience includes Western Mining Corporation and The Broken Hill Proprietary Co.Ltd.  At WMC, Hugh's geophysical analysis led to the discovery of the Olympic Dam deposit, a mine of worldwide significance. At BHP, he was Chief Geophysicist and a member of the three-man exploration management team during the early eighties.

As a consulting geophysicist Hugh has worked on major projects throughout Australia and the World including, in particular, S.E. Asia, South America and West Africa.

He has been a lecturer in geophysics at Monash University, has given many in-house courses and has presented a course in exploration geophysics through the Australian Mineral Foundation.  He is currently a part-time lecturer in geophysics at Ballarat University.

His research includes the development of interpretation techniques for Transient Electromagnetic data and, while Research Manager with the CSIRO, sub-surface radar and acoustic transmission methods.

He is an active participant in the AusIMM (past Chairman Melbourne Branch), ASEG (past-President and Honorary Member), SEG, EAGE, AIG and MICA.
