Since 1987 Ross has worked in a variety of geological terrains
around Australia. Much of his work has been a mix of extensive exploration field work and computer applications.
While based in Kalgoorlie he was a project geologist involved
in the extensive drilling programs at Centaur
Mining's Lady Bountiful Extended prospects. With Great Central Mines
he conducted much of the mapping, sampling and initial drilling that first identified the
Plutonic ore body (subsequently sold to Plutonic Resources and currently owned and operated by Barrick Gold Corp.).
With M.I.M. Exploration he was an integral part of the team exploring
for repetitions/extensions of the unusual Tick Hill gold
mineralisation, in high-grade metamorphic rocks south of Mt. Isa.
More recently, Ross has worked on the structurally, metamorphically
and metasomatically complex Proterozoic rocks of the Eyre Peninsula,
South Australia and the uranium/thorium/rare-earth-rich rocks of the Harts Range gem-fields in the Northern Territory.
He has worked in various locations in the gold-fields of Victoria, including the Ballarat-Bendigo region, and has become very familiar with the
mountains and geology of the Woods Point - Walhalla gold-field. Ross has worked as far afield as the Red Lake
gold district in northern Ontario and has travelled extensively overseas,
including work as a geotechnical consultant in the U.K.
As part of his field experience, Ross has developed considerable
proficiency in the logging of diamond-drill core, particularly the
collection and assessment of detailed structural data. He has also
planned, supervised and logged deep drilling (up to ca. 1500 metres)
and directional / wedge drilling.
To compliment his field experience and abilities, Ross is also
proficient, and creative, in the use of computer applications such as geographic information systems (GIS),
computer-aided drafting (CAD) and geophysical image processing and enhancement.
He is also experienced in accessing, reviewing and manipulating available open-file digital data.
He is in the rare position of being able to personally follow
data from collection in the field - sampling, drill logging, mapping, etc. -
to drafting and database/GIS compilation and manipulation,
and the subsequent (and simultaneous) analysis and
interpretation of results, and production of plans, cross-sections and other data presentations.
He is also experienced and proficient in the generation of statutory reports in digital format,
as is now required by most state and territory authorities.
